Purpose of the thorn:

PAPIClocks registers CPU hardware counters (e.g. CPU time, #instructions, 
#cycles, #cache misses) as Cactus clocks with the flesh.
Existing Cactus timers can then be used to output this information for
individual scheduled routines and give a precise profile on how good a Cactus 
simulation is performing.
